Scarlet Gleam's semi-trailing habit is perfect for hanging baskets or containers. Brilliant red, edible flowers have a spicy flavor that is the perfect addition to summer salads. Easy to grow. It won an All America Selections Gold Medal in 1935.

Plant in full sun, or part shade in hot areas, in warm, well-drained soil after all danger of spring frost. Start indoors four to six weeks prior to last spring frost but note that delicate roots do not transplant well. Water consistently and do not fertilize.
Nick the seed coat and soak in warm water 24 hours before planting to encourage germination.
