An essential hot weather vegetable. Produces well even when it is too hot and humid for snap beans. Pods are held on a short vine and mature about the same time as okra. May be eaten whole when young or shelled for their seeds when mature.
Seed Depth: 1" (3cm)
Plant Space: 4" (10cm)
Row Space: 18" (46cm)
Sprouts In: 7-14 days
Plant outdoors in full sun and rich, well-drained soil after all danger of frost. Cowpeas germinate best at a soil temperature of 65°F or warmer. Water frequently at soil level.
Harvest pods while still young and tender. For fresh shelled peas, harvest when pods begin to change color and seeds are plump.
